Target Group: Intercultural teams which are currently working together or will be working together in the future.
Duration: 1 day
Tools: Indoor seminar + outdoor training including low and high ropes elements
Goal: Teambuilding, developing soft skills and strategic thinking
The electronic producing company Fujitsu has sent their 12 worldwide best consultants on a one-day team training with Check Point. Starting with the indoor seminar the group became acquainted and practiced communication and strategic thinking by solving team tasks.
After the group had fabulously progressed as a team the outdoor training plan was applied and challenged the team under unusual and highly emotional conditions.
During the indoor seminar, theory about the benefits of a well functioning team and the importance of soft skills as part of the whole competence system has been taught.
Communication and strategic thinking initiatives, which could be completed with teamwork only, gave the group the chance to:
1. analyze and reflect on effectiveness
2. understand which skills were necessarily improvable
3. learn solutions to the challenge of communicating in a foreign language within a multi-cultural group.
The following 4-hour outdoor training intensified communication skills, strategic thinking and teamwork. Furthermore, being exposed to problem-solving task in an unusual and “adrenalin-spiced” outdoor setting, emotional reactions and character traits were unlocked and exposed. That is when one’s true personality will be
obviously shown in an emotional safe created atmosphere in the team. In addition, what has been experienced became emotionally anchored and therefore, is lifelong memorable.
The training allowed the group to be open-minded, to gain respect and especially to trust each other. That stage of the group became finally the basis to “melt together” as a highly effective and respecting team. Also the team has noticed how communication, the style of goal-setting, how to take action, the sense of competition and the input of ambition varies among different cultural backgrounds.
The intercultural training for Fujitsu ended with a final reflection. That reflection was also a learning process in which, the participants surprisingly noticed that the self-evaluations and group-evaluations varied extremely depending on personality and especially cultural heritage.
